Alfa Bank will deliver its cards in new eco-friendly packaging, saving 29 tons of paper annually. Next year, Alfa Bank plans to deliver about 1 million cards to its customers.
“Banks use a lot of paper to deliver cards to their customers — both for envelopes and documents to sign. We are searching for ways to cut it down, but the law does not allow to get rid of paperwork, so our bank decided to switch to eco-friendly materials and reduce the package of documents to the minimum. I hope other banks will follow our example,” said Alfa Bank's marketing director Aleksei Giyazov.
The new envelope is made of a decomposing material — special paper certified by FSC standards. This means that the material is produced without forest destruction.
Alfa Bank does not apply usual ink, the production of which causes damage to nature. Now all the inscriptions on envelopes are made in soy ink, safe to produce and completely evaporating after a year, as well as in embossed fonts.
The package of documents is optimal now: excessive sheets were removed, the set is more simplified.
From 2018, Alfa Bank offers digitally delivered cards to customers. These cards are in the form of digital tokens, downloaded to Apple Pay/Google Pay. Use them to pay for purchases with a smartphone and on the Internet — all information is available in the bank’s mobile app. The physical card itself is not needed — and this is the most environmentally friendly option as of today.
